The Ancient City of Siam – Thailand

I did lot of research before deciding on this landmark. I had a good feeling about it and I wanted to experience it alone. There are some things in life that are best when experienced alone.

Why?

We run into limitations when out with the family but going solo allows us to be adventurous and be in meditative and reflective mood. Plus, architecture and history is not something that a two year old would appreciate.

Thanks to Brinda, I got the permission to venture out alone. πŸ™‚

The place is about 1-2 hours from Bangkok and is not on tourist map. It is best to get there early in the morning so that you have the whole day to yourself.

The ancient city is huge and can be explored on bike or a golf cart. Obviously I took the bike option, it is more fun and you get some exercise as well.

The grounds are well kept despite of its huge size. Most of the gardeners/workers are Thai women, well groomed lawns and gardens are the living example of their sheer hard work.

Some of the gardens are dedicated to Ramayana and other Puranic events.

It is well worth spending the entire day in soaking up the beautiful architecture, history and peace of the place.

I also got to try the Bangkok Bus system and rode in one of these trucks that are meant for locals only.

See more pics of Ancient City here, I have also updated the B&W collection.

I have seen this place on TV and definitely want to visit here too. You are right that this place is not on tourist map but that is good because otherwise you were not able to feel the place in a real way.
