What is Financial Freedom? Why do we need it?

I’m often asked this question: what do I really mean by Financial Freedom. Most of us have heard this term by now. Some think of it being similar to Retirement or something that is for people in their sixties or seventies whatever the bar may be.

Financial Freedom usually means that we have enough money to pay our bills. Or that we have met our short and long term financial obligations. In other words, we don’t really need to work anymore for our living expenses.

All of the above definitions are correct. But in my opinion, Financial Freedom really means that we’re living life at our own terms. Everyday is a different day where we set out to experience the best of life. We have freedom to travel places where we’re not constrained by time, money or other factors. We’re able to fulfill our desires whatever those may be as we have plenty of time to reflect on our lives and pursue what brings true happiness to each one of us.

But these days we have increased responsibilities, longer work hours and greater expectations regardless of the industry we work in. Everybody is expected to produce more with less resources and it has gotten worse over the years. We lead stressful, sometimes boring and mostly mechanical lives.

There is hardly any time and energy left for ourselves and our families, to pursue forgotten, neglected interests and hobbies. There’s so much that we would like to accomplish in our lives apart from our daily routine jobs. The frustration keeps building up and there doesn’t seem to be any hope. The problem is that we get so involved, consumed and accustomed to it, we don’t even realize there’s something wrong with such lifestyle and the need to get out of it.

Life is short, all of us should get the opportunity to live life to the fullest while we are young. Don’t leave the best to so called Golden years, they’re not that Golden after all..:-) Well, that’s a topic for another day.

We don’t need to be Rich, we just need enough!! We need to acquire a different mindset to achieve financial freedom. But the first step is to have a strong desire to be financially free. Once we have that, next step is to have a plan which I’ll discuss in later posts.

      Thanks.

We cannot bring back the lost years. The best thing is to take control and act now, not only you’ll do good to yourself, your family but to others as well.
